Role of Parque Expo
Studies and submission of proposal for approval of the urban renewal and revitalisation plan for downtown Lisbon’s Pombaline-style riverfront area and Praça do Comércio Square.
Objectives
- To contribute to the creation of a new image for Lisbon in Europe and worldwide, and thereby return the Tagus River back to its citizens, and revitalise fruition of Lisbon’s Riverfront and Downtown areas;
- To strengthen the complementary links between Lisbon’s Riverfront and the surrounding Pombaline-style (Baixa-Chiado) Downtown area;
- To renovate the “area’s” identity and its “scenic” features;
- To consolidate the focal features of Praça do Comércio Square and the Riverfront area – their historical, symbolic, and architectural qualities, and thereby fostering increased usage and fruition by citizens;
- To promote multifunctional usage, integrating the area’s symbolism and its usage: public administration offices, company offices, shopping, and leisure and entertainment facilities;
- To stimulate the area’s economic, social, and cultural dynamics.
