Portugal already has a Pavilion at the Expo 2010 Shanghai. The 2000 m2 Pavilion, features a façade covered in cork, a national material which is recyclable and ecological. It is an example of innovation and positive environmental practices which will boost Portugal´s image at the largest Universal Exposition yet.
Representing the country in terms of commerce and culture, the Portugal Pavilion reflects the sustainability concept of contemporary city buildings and emphasises it as a key element of national policies in economic and environmental terms.
The project to construct the Pavilion is budgeted at three million Euros, and is the creation of Portuguese architect Carlos Couto, established in Macau. The execution of the Portugal Pavilion is the responsibility of a consortium led by PAL Asiaconsult, a company chosen after a consultancy carried out by Portuguese Participation.
The Portugal Pavilion presents to the world the historical relations between Portugal and China. Considering the “Better City, Better Life” theme of Expo 2010 Shanghai, the project also showcases national advances in the area of renewable energy and the creation of innovative products regarding the environment and energy.
