Parque EXPO, within the scope of its mission to promote the quality of urban life and competitiveness of the land, has teamed up with the Lisbon Oceanarium and joined the Iniciativa Construção Sustentável (Sustainable Construction Initiative), which is sponsoring the Human Habitat 2010 Conferences. This series of ten debates, devoted to the subject of Sustainable Cities, takes place in venues of the Parque das Nações from 22nd February.
Parque EXPO is supporting these conferences, which emphasise the human habitat and the common language needed to successfully meet the challenges and responsibilities inherent to sustainable development.
The first conference in the series, "Competence, more than money, defines sustainable development" (“A competência, mais do que os valores, define o desenvolvimento sustentável”), is being presented on the 22nd February at 6pm in the Sophia de Mello Breyner Andersen Room, at the Lisbon Oceanarium, with Karl-Henrik Robert as the guest speaker. Entrance is free but attendees must register.
The remaining conferences take place on the 12th and 26th April, 3rd May, 27th September, 18th and 25th October, 8th and 22nd November and 6th December. They are aimed at any citizen who is interested in increasing his or her knowledge on how they can contribute to sustainable urban development.
Ten internationally-renowned speakers will share their holistic visions on the new models for sustainable urban development, around four structured themes: resilience, the human dimension, the metabolisms of the systems that support them, and foreseeable transformations.
Parque EXPO, who is involved in urban renovation and environmental requalification, enhancing environmental, socio-cultural and economic aspects from an integrated, sustainable development perspective, thus emphasises the city development strategy, from the point of view of quality of life, environmental balance and competitiveness.
